This trip - we’re at the Metterra Hotel on Whyte Avenue! Since Halloween is right around the corner and my daughters love everything spooky we were so excited to experience a hotel in one of Edmonton’s oldest and historic neighborhoods!
WHERE WE STAYED
The Metterra Hotel is right in the heart of Old Strathcona; a community with a rich history and an eclectic feel. Walk right outside the hotel doors and you’re right there amongst the many shops, boutiques, restaurants and trendy bars. The location cannot be beat.
It has 98 rooms and is a 4 star hotel. It’s in a great spot as lots is available within walking distance but you’re also a short car ride away from multiple malls, the Royal Alberta Museum and The Valley Zoo.
The hotel is actually way bigger than I expected! Staff were super friendly and the lobby is absolutely gorgeous.
Check in is at 3pm & Check out is at 12pm.
ROOMS
There are a variety of rooms at The Metterra! Double & King standard rooms are available as well as premium rooms with a view and a balcony. If you need a little bit more room; they have Studio & King suites.
All rooms offer black out curtains and have a minibar, fridge, tea and coffee maker and flat screen TVs. I loved that we could make espresso right in the room.
We stayed in a King Suite and it was so perfect for us 3 girls! Sleepover!!! There was tons of room for us and it was fun to have a separate living room. We had GREAT views and the bathroom was beautiful.
Breakfast and WiFi are also included with your stay.
WHERE WE ATE
As mentioned above, breakfast is included with your stay. They had everything you could want for breakfast; hot and cold. A great selection of fruits and pastries, eggs, sausages, hashbrowns and bacon. Also a fabulous coffee machine that makes lattes, espressos and cappuccinos! Cereal and oatmeal were also available. This was so convenient to have included in the room rate.
While there isn’t a dinner restaurant on site; there is a fantastic restaurant called Ampersand27 just steps away at their sister property Varscona Hotel on Whyte. We had a great dinner there and I was impressed that they did offer chicken fingers and pizzas for the kids too. I had the carbonara and it was delicious!
A huge perk of staying at The Metterra is that they offer discounts at a long list of shops and restaurants. When we saw that we could get 15% off at “Made By Marcus” ice cream; we pretty much ran there for dessert. All you gotta do is show your room key!
The location of the hotel is awesome as they are close to a wide range of great restaurants, both on Whyte Ave. area and in downtown Edmonton. Plus their staff is happy to recommend local favourites and assist with reservations and transportation if required.
HALLOWEEN FUN!
We stayed here during the month of October which was perfect for Halloween enthusiasts like us! The girls are a little young for the ghost tours so we just stayed in and watched the classic “Hocus Pocus”.
There are some GREAT tours and events going on right down the street for Halloween. Check out these fun ideas to do during your stay at The Metterra :

We had such a fun girls night at The Metterra on Whyte Ave. Hope this gives you a little glimpse into what your stay could be like! While the girls and I enjoyed the hotel by staying in’; this would be a great option for a night out on the town too. I actually text my husband Bobby while we were there and said it would be the PERFECT hotel for a date night!
