Date Night Getaway At The Four Points Sheraton

The stars aligned and my husband Bobby and I found an overnight babysitter (THANK YOU to his sister Sam!) & an Oilers game (Battle of Alberta!) on a Saturday night when he was on his week off. For those that are new; my husband Bobby is a driller on an Oil Rig so he usually works two weeks out of town and back home for one week. Planning anything is nightmare.

With the help of Edmonton’s Best Hotels; we made a night of it! We stayed at The Four Points Sheraton Gateway and it was the exact break that this mama needed!

WHERE WE STAYED

We stayed southside to be close to home JUST in case anything happened ( anxious mom over here ha!) and The Four Points Sheraton Gateway was perfect! It has great access to Hwy 2 / Gateway / Calgary Trail and is really close to South Edmonton Common. The hotel lobby is absolutely stunning; its huge and very grand. Big fireplace and super friendly staff. They also have a little store on site that I thought was really unique so if you need snacks or forgot something; they’ve got you covered.

THE ROOMS

There is a pretty good variety of rooms at this hotel and all the rooms seem quite large. We stayed in a 1 Bedroom Executive Suite with a whirlpool. That bathroom = WOW. You know I am a fan of good lighting in there and it was so beautiful. A gorgeous tub and a full glass shower; I couldn’t just stayed in the bathroom haha.

The room had a TON of space and a really unique feature - 2 TVs haha. I was thinking this would have been perfect for the F1 racing season when Bobby wants to watch the race and I just want to curl up in bed with a coffee and watch anything but lol. Speaking of the bed - it was really comfy. Lots of pillows and a warm cozy duvet.

Great amenities in the room - yummy coffee and robes. It was extremely clean and well kept.

THE POOL

Haha even without the kids - we still checked out the pool. It was awesome. They keep it pretty warm and again very clean. It’s gotta be something from my childhood I think; I just love hotel pools.

There is also a hot tub! No need to book a reservation or a time for the pool but they did (as of January 2022) check our vaccination QR codes.

There is also a very nice fitness facility! Again - I didn't use it.

THE OILERS GAME!

We had such a blast at the Edmonton vs Calgary game at Rogers Place. Oh my gosh and WHAT a game it was. Right now (January 2022) there are restrictions in place that limit capacity and also food and drink are not allowed in your seats. Only at certain bars and only at certain times. Truthfully I was worried about how this might affect the whole “in game” experience but it didn’t. We had a blast.

I was pleasantly surprised how courteous everyone was and a huge shout out to the staff at Rogers place. They worked hard to ensure everyone was having an awesome time but also following the rules. I was impressed.

There are also some really exciting things coming for the Ice District and future events at Rogers Place. They’ve added new digital screens plus sound and lights to the place AND the Candian ICEhouse will be opening this spring/ summer. It’s truly going to be the spot for entertainment in Edmonton. I cannot wait.

THE FOOD

When we returned from the Oilers game there was cheesecake waiting for us in our room - such a treat! The Four Points Sheraton Gateway has a restaurant on site ( White Spot ) and you can order take out or room service from there or dine in the restaurant. We were informed that a NEW restaurant will be coming in the Spring so that is very exciting. But I can tell you if you get the chance to try the room service cheese cake you will not be disappointed.
