Our Stay At The Forest Park Hotel In Jasper
Jasper in January is one of the very best times to visit the mountain townsite of Jasper, AB! Located in the Rocky Mountains it offers beautiful views, abundant wildlife and a “back home” feel to the mountains. We were recently hosted by Jasper Tourism and we got to stay at the brand new Forest Park Hotel right in Jasper.
WHERE WE STAYED
The Forest Park Hotel is the very first hotel to be built in Jasper in 40 years. Pretty amazing! It is the first hotel as you come into Jasper and is formally The Sawridge Inn. It’s neat how they have combined “new and old”. I absolutely love that they stuck to their roots and kept the original giant fireplace in the middle of the atrium. The rooms are renovated surrounding the atrium and there is also an addition that is BRAND NEW. These are known as the “Alpine” rooms. The rooms in the original part of the hotel are closest to the pool and restaurants and are known as the “Woodland” rooms. While not brand new; they are renovated.
Because this is literally the first hotel as you come into Jasper; it is a bit of a hike to walk to the stores in Jasper. I would say a good 15 minute walk. However when we drove it was fast and I always found parking with no problems.
ROOMS
I found the rooms in the Alpine wing ( the new wing) quite spacious. We stayed in a 2 queen Kitchen Suite. They offer vaulted ceilings and kitchenettes which was GREAT with kids! These kitchenettes even had dishwashers. The bathrooms are the hit of the room I would say. They are so modern and beautiful. I could have just stayed in there haha! The bathroom amenities were lovely.
The room we had also had a balcony looking out onto the main street of Jasper. While we didn’t spend too much time out there ( It WAS January haha) I think this would be really nice in the summer and fall.
If you need a little more room they do offer one bedroom suites as well and they look awesome!
On the Woodland side; there is more variety when it comes to the rooms. You can see more HERE.
All rooms include complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, a mini fridge and a TV.
POOL
The Pool is located in the atrium and the girls loved it. It wasn’t too cold and they also have a hot tub!
SPA
They also have a spa on site. I didn’t get the chance to experience it sadly. Great news if you are a guest of this hotel; present your room key card to receive 10% off treatments on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays! If you would like to book a treatment you can click HERE.
RESTAURANTS
There are two restaurants on site. We had the buffet breakfast at Walter’s and if I’m being honest it left a little to be desired. Maybe it was just a bad day. It was good; but not amazing. Your standard eggs, sausage, hash browns, yogurt and muffins.
We also had dinner at The Hearthstone Lounge at the hotel- and that was amazing! We ordered take out and just had it in our room. The Berta pizza was SO good.
PETS
The Forest Park Hotel IS pet friendly! Although we didn’t bring our dog Cactus this time; I think we will next time. There is a Pet fee of $25 per pet (collected on-site); and a maximum 2 pets per room. Pet rooms are only available in certain room types.
PARKING
TONS of parking on site above ground and it’s free! You just have to register your licence plate with the front desk.
JASPER IN JANUARY
Jasper in January is the perfect opportunity for everyone to embrace all that Jasper has to offer. From Skiing to Sleigh Rides to Dog Sledding and so much more! ONE LAST NOTE…..
Full disclosure here we did have a few incidents during our stay. Would they keep me from booking here? No but they are worth mentioning. For some reason our keys kept being demagnetized. We had to go get new ones from the front desk about 5 times during the weekend ( frustrating with kids haha). And the thermostat in our room didnt seem to work. When we called the front desk they did send someone in however they could not get it fixed and just gave us a fan ( disappointing). It was some hot nights in that room and not the kind you like ha!
Like I said; I think these were just one offs and it wouldn’t stop me from booking here again but I can’t say our stay was perfect.
I hope you get to enjoy Jasper as much as we did. It truly is so beautiful and has that “hometown” feel right in the heart of the mountains. I can’t wait to return!
