Our Stay At The Calgary Marriott Downtown

We were recently invited to spend a few nights at The Calgary Marriott Downtown. As you know, my husband Bobby works out of town so lining up a family vacation is pretty rare. When the timing did actually work out; we jumped at the chance! Here are a few things about our stay that hopefully will help you in making a decision on where to stay in Calgary.

ROOMS

We stayed in a standard double room and it was really nice. A fair amount of room (cause kids have A LOT of stuff) and a beautiful bathroom aka good lighting for makeup. Everything was super clean. A mountain mural on the walls was pretty and we had a great view of downtown. The girls LOVED seeing all the lights on the downtown buildings at night. Beds were comfy and they provided a crib for Lilly which was awesome ( less to pack !). The noise of downtown didn’t carry up to our room on the 7th floor. No microwave in the room, but we did have a mini fridge and a coffee maker. I liked that we could sign into our Netflix account right on the TV. Ok let’s be honest; the girls did so they could watch Paw Patrol ha!

POOL

First up for us is always the pool. It’s indoors and a decent size. Water was cool but easy to get used to. We didn’t have to sign up for a time we were able to just use our key to get in. Everyone was still pretty respectful of distancing which was nice. The girls had a riot in there.

There is also a whirlpool and a workout room. I did not use this haha but Bob did.

RESTAURANT

Attached to The Calgary Marriott is One18 Empire. They do room service, dine in or take out. While it was very convenient having the room service option; I found they didn’t have a lot for kids. But with over 300 whiskeys, I’m not sure it’s meant to be tailored to kids haha. Still the girls loved the Dill Pickle Chicken Burger and the Charcuterie Board. Really well crafted beautiful food. But for the kids ; there is also a Milestones attached to the hotel with a kids menu (and a dog friendly patio).

Something I LOVED - there is a Starbucks right in the lobby. That was so nice and convenient.

DOGS

This was my absolute favourite thing about our stay - Cactus, our husky mix, got to come along! They are VERY dog friendly. When we arrived they greeted him like a guest and in our room was a bag of treats, bowls , a bed and a toy. They went above and beyond and it did not go unnoticed.

Plus- there is a fabulous Doggy Day Care service just a 2 minute walk away called The Petropolitan. We went to Calaway Park one day ( More on that HERE) and he was treated like gold. I cannot say enough great things about the care they provided for our 4 legged family member.

AROUND THE HOTEL

I loved this hotel for its proximity to everything. It’s literally 50 steps away from The Calgary Tower. Historic Stephen Avenue, River walking paths, The Calgary Zoo, Heritage Park , Core Shopping and the Scotiabank Saddledome are all nearby. I love my girls BUT if we didn’t have the kids it would’ve been a perfect spot to go check out a few of the local pubs just a block away.

I hope this helps you if you’re thinking of a stay in Calgary. Honestly it was so nice just to have a little getaway with my family and I thank The Calgary Marriott Downtown so much for that opportunity through hosting us.
