Spring Break At The Sandman Edmonton West!

March and April mean one thing if you’ve got kids - SPRING BREAK! Whether you’re living here in Edmonton and looking for a change of scenery with a staycation or you’re coming here from out of town; there are some GREAT hotels that your kids will absolutely love. At the top of that list - is The Sandman Edmonton West!

This time; my girls Kennedy (8) and Lilly (5) got to each invite a friend so it really felt like a fun Spring Break night away! The girls have been giddy for WEEKS over this. It was really sweet.

WHERE WE STAYED

The Sandman Edmonton West is conveniently located right by West Edmonton Mall (about a 5 min drive or a 25 minute walk away) and has two restaurants connected to it. CHOP Steakhouse & Bar and Denny’s ( more on these later!).

There are a ton of things to do around the hotel; from the Telus World of Science to trampoline parks (we went to LaunchPad) to restaurants galore (some of which are options for the ultimate dining card if you choose that as your Edmonton’s Best Hotels reward!). This hotel is in a GREAT location.

They have two parts of the hotel; the tower which boasts 113 rooms including King suites with kitchenettes and the main building. Both are easily connected to the main lobby. They are pet friendly and have tons of meeting facilities as well.

They have a modern fitness facility & pool area( see below!) and there is free high speed wifi throughout the hotel.

Check in is 4pm and check out is 11am.

ROOMS

There are quite a few options when it comes to rooms. Their executive tower offers rooms with a bit more space and kitchenettes - even in suite laundry! The Sandman Edmonton West prides itself on being a “home away from home” and it truly is.

You can keep it simple in a standard room, choose a little more space with a suite or really go all out and choose a suite with a kitchenette and a beautiful balcony on the tower. The choices are endless.

We stayed in 2 adjoining rooms. With 3 kids, a dog and some friends with us - connecting rooms were a great option to have. We weren’t far away from the pool and one room had 2 queen beds while the other had a kitchenette and a king sized bed.

All rooms have a coffee machine and a mini fridge. I love the outlets because if you forget to bring a “block” you can plug your cords right into the wall. Having the kitchenette was really nice too - even glass wine glasses in there But you know I love a good paper cup haha.

THE POOL!

Even if it’s not great outside; it’s always great INSIDE at the pool! The Sandman Edmonton West has a gorgeous indoor (heated!) pool and jacuzzi. It was pretty busy when we were there but the staff worked hard getting pool towels for everyone and making sure everyone was having fun. The kids had a great time in the pool while the moms lounged poolside. Just kidding - we did end up in the pool with all 5 kids haha. It was fun! The pool is open daily from 9am - 9pm.

There is a fitness centre conveniently located right beside the pool. It is open 7am - 10pm.

I did also see a massage therapy office located just off of the pool and fitness centre as well. NICE! There is never enough time when we do these stays haha. A massage right on site would’ve been amazing! Next time :)

WHERE WE ATE

I love when a great restaurant is connected right to the hotel. This is most definitely the case with The Sandman Edmonton West and CHOP Steakhouse & Bar .

We had dinner at CHOP and I was really impressed with the menu options. From salads to pasta; seafood to steak. We all could find something we loved. The kids menu was awesome - chicken fingers of course haha but also options like Salmon ( Tripps Fav). They even brought out little fruit plates for the kids as appetizers.

Breakfast at Denny’s was a highlight. Our server Jimmy was so great with the kids and understood the importance of getting our food fast. I had the crepes and I can’t recommend them enough. The kids meals were large and a really great price (Under $10!). Thank you to Jimmy for being superb. Also for those asking- YES “Moons Over My Hammy” is still a menu item at Denny’s!

The Sandman Edmonton West also boasts a coffee station in the lobby where you can quickly grab a coffee to go - on them!

OUR ITINERARY

If you’re looking for a very reasonably priced hotel in the heart of West Edmonton; the Sandman Edmonton West is it. There are so many things to do around this hotel; it’s a great place for families. Here is a sample itinerary of what you could get up to. There are some alternative options as well!

4pm: Check in and make it up to your room. Time to see what’s around the hotel!

4:30pm - 6pm: Bounce party at Launchpad! This trampoline park is a 3 minute drive from the hotel and really did the trick when it comes to building up an appetite and tiring the little ones out! Launchpad is great for kids - we had Kennedy’s 8th birthday party there. The kids loved it. / ALTERNATIVE: Head on over to the world famous West Edmonton Mall for some retail therapy.

6:30pm: Dinner at CHOP Steakhouse and Bar. Attached right to the hotel; you don’t have to worry about driving home; you ARE home!

8pm: Pool Time! You have got to check out the gorgeous pool at Sandman Edmonton West. The jacuzzi is a perfect temperature and gets you relaxed for bed!

9pm: Snuggle into your hotel room and watch a movie, or have an early night and get a great nights sleep./ ALTERNATIVE: There are a ton of things to do at night within a short drive of the hotel. The movie theatre is at West Edmonton Mall; along with multiple bars and comedy venues.

7am: Wake up! / ALTERNATIVE: Sleep IN!!!

8:30am: Walk down from your room to Denny’s! They serve up such a great breakfast and will get everyone going on their day.

10am: Head on over to the TELUS World of Science or West Edmonton Mall. If you are staying more than just one night it would be a great idea to experience Galaxyland or the World Water Park. These are legendary in the City of Edmonton and always offer a fantastic time for families. / ALTERNATIVE: Relax by the pool or sneak in a workout in the fitness facility. OR maybe a massage?

11am: Check out!

PETS

Cactus came with us for this adventure! Always love when we get to bring him along and they treated him so well. Everywhere we went; there were cuddles and pets galore for him. The staff treated him so kindly.

The Sandman Edmonton West proudly welcomes your four-legged friends in their pet-friendly suites.  Their pet fee is $25/ day up to a max of $125 / week. Each guest room is limited to 2 pets.

PARKING

Registered guests can enjoy free overnight parking right outside the hotel. There were plenty of spots!
