40 Things I’ve Learned In 40 Years

Elder millennials (YES us 1984 babes) - we are HERE. Ouch. Remember when our parents turned 40 and we thought they were OLD. That can’t be us right? It’s different now.

I remember both of my parents 40th bdays and all the over the hill cards. I remember them looking old ( sorry guys haha) and I remember them just being parents. Now WE are them. But with better hair…mostly haha

I’ve learned a lot of hard lessons over the past 40 years; some obvious, some not so much. Over the last few weeks I have put together 40 of the ones that stick out to me and I hope they help you too. Some you’ve heard before; some are cliche ( but true!) and some are my own.

  1. People know exactly what they are doing

  2. That picture that you think you look hideous in? You will look back on in it in a few years and think the exact opposite.

  3. 5am is actually not that bad. It’s a really neat time when the world is asleep and you get to start the day. Its quiet , peaceful and truly rewarding.

  4. People are more concerned with themselves- trust me. That embarrassing thing you did won’t matter even a week from now.

  5. Trust your gut

  6. Hurt people hurt people

  7. A good skincare routine is priceless.

  8. Wait 24 hours before sending an email or text when you are hot/mad

  9. Try not to drink during the week

  10. Exercise will actually make you feel better no matter how badly you don’t want to do it

  11. No one sees the size on your jeans - buy the ones that fit

  12. When you get what you want, stop talking

  13. Underpromise and Overdeliver

  14. Consistency is the secret. So many people do a fantastic job but don’t stay at it.

  15. A spray tan can actually improve your mental health.

  16. If they wanted to, they would

  17. Go the extra mile - its less crowded for a reason

  18. Share when you got something on sale

  19. Become a good hugger

  20. You get what you pay for

  21. People are good- believe that. Not everyone is out to get you

  22. You’re a good mom. If you’re worried about it - you’re a good mom.

  23. Your energy controls a room.

  24. Speaking of that - your KIDS will 100% feed off of your energy.

  25. Deep breathing can do wonders. Sneak into the bathroom and take some deep breaths.

  26. Best friends don’t need to see each other all the time. And it’s true what they say- we have about 5 pics together haha

  27. What you say to your kids becomes their inner dialogue

  28. Birthday are special. Remember them

  29. Don’t wait to celebrate. The things you are saving- use / open them now

  30. Be smart with your money. Seperate bank accounts always. And a joint one too.

  31. A friend’s dad once gave her the best advice that she shared with me; When you have a broken heart and you cannot sleep listen to country music and read the bible. The music will let you know you’re not alone in heartbreak and the bible will put you to sleep

  32. Everyone needs one pair of good cowboy boots

  33. Family is everything. Especially your funny aunts and uncles

  34. Cousins truly are the siblings you were meant to have

  35. Always say yes to cheesecake

  36. Sunscreen is actually important

  37. Coffee cures everything

  38. My dad always said this “ Watch your thoughts, they become your actions; watch your actions; they become your character”

  39. Dry Shampoo will forever be my life saver

  40. It’s ok the be the villain in someone else’s story if it means you did the right thing.

Love you all - thank you for all of the sweet bday messages. You sure know how to make a girl feel special xo
