What a Time at The Baby Spa!
Tripp is now 2 months old! Geez time flies. We were recently invited to go check out The Baby Spa in Sherwood Park and I am so glad we did. I had heard about spas like this but have never actually tried one.
WHAT IS IT?
The Baby Spa Sherwood Park is the first of it’s kind in Western Canada. There are options for hydrotherapy ( ie a float session) as well as massage for your baby! They are located at #10 140 Athabascan Ave in Sherwood Park, Alberta.
OUR EXPERIENCE
We did both the 30 minute float as well as the massage. When we arrived we went over to an area with super soft beds on the floor ( safest for baby) and got him changed. They provide your choice of either a cloth diaper or a disposable (like a little swimmers) diaper for your baby. We got Tripp undressed and changed and ready for the float tub! These things are really cool - they have a see through part so you can see your little one floating away and fluttering their hands & feet.
Tara ( the owner) put the float device around Tripp’s neck. To be honest I was really scared about these. When I saw them online; they appeared to be tight around the baby’s neck. But they actually aren’t! Of course they are secure but it was not tight at all and Tara explained how the water helps with the babies buoyancy and keeps them afloat safely and comfortably.
Tara nailed the water temperature haha it was perfect for Tripp. We put him in the tub and he immediately took to it. It was just so sweet to see him floating in there; experiencing floating around. There are toys that you can play with as well. But I just went total mom voice and soaked it all in with him; asking him questions like he was going to answer back haha. The lights are awesome in there too - he kept watching them twinkle.
Something that caught me off guard was how bonding it was for us. It was just me and him- no distractions. I was so happy just seeing him so happy in that water.
After about 30 mins; a delightfully warm towel is brought over and you dry your baby off and get them ready for a massage! I changed Tripp back to his regular diapers and into the massage room we went with Kaitlyn from Little Rainbow Massage.
Tripp was a little fussy at first but I think he was hungry from the swimming haha. So I fed him a bit and then he seemed to settle. He really relaxed and just soaked in all those baby cuddles and massages! I got to sit right beside him and she worked on his tummy ( he has had a bit of gas lately) and rubbed those adorable feet. He laid there so relaxed for about 25 mins.
Then we got him back in his sleeper and I was able to feed Tripp in a lovely room off to the side. Tara has thought of everything in that she has created a feeding room with a fireplace and comfy chairs. These babies work up an appetite swimming so it was nice to just relax and make sure he would be happy and content for our ride home.
And “Happy & content” is an understatement! Tripp was so chill the remainder of the day and slept very well the night of. Could be a coincidence haha but it was pretty awesome.
THE BENEFITS OF HYDROTHERAPY
While I was there Tara told me all about the incredible benefits of combined hydrotherapy and massage for babies. From sleeping issues, Colic and even constipation, float therapy and massage can be used to help calm the discomfort your baby may feel. The bonding experience and emotional benefits are huge for both of you.
AND SPEAKING OF BENEFITS….
Something that I love? You can actually claim this through your benefits. The combined hydrotherapy and massage (by an RMT) can be claimed under your benefits package (if your child is added to your plan!).
If you’re looking for a neat experience with your little one or a GREAT gift idea for a parent in your life- The Baby Spa is a wonderful choice. We can’t wait to go back; I’ve booked our next session already!
